About Abyrose Wiltshires

This website is to be informative

and useful to lifestyle block owners via content and blog posts.

The Wiltshire breed was introduced into New Zealand in 1972.

Wiltshires are hugely popular with Lifestyle block owners as easy care sheep.

The main trait is that they shed their fleece naturally in Spring.

They have no wool on their heads, bellies, legs, and around the perineal region, all of

these regions are covered in short white hair.  The underside of the tail is bare skin.

The breed is very hardy and does well on poor pasture.

If allowed, these sheep will supplement their feed by browsing.

Our Wiltshires often act like goats and will climb and chew on trees.

Perhaps it's because we have hand raised most of our Wiltshires

but I find them highly intelligent. They learn quickly and are thinkers.

Wiltshires are naturally cautious of new things but have an even temperament

and if hand raised are very friendly and enjoy human interaction.
